The Inverted Bee

​I created this design in response to a competition in which young designers were challenged to design an outdoor furniture for their wooded area in Beersel, just outside Brussels. During the introduction, the organisation told a story about a rare green sand bee that lived on their property. A special conservation project by the organisation and nature conservation ensured that the population of green sand bees in Belgium has returned. The story inspired me to design a bench in honour of this little insect. I want to share this story with young visitors to Destelheide. In my research, I started by abstracting the green sand bee. Sketch after sketch brought me closer to the final result.
